Additional Information

Dr. Kurylo is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and traumatologist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. For the past nine years, Dr. Kurylo has practiced in Northern California, preceded by two years in private practice in the Boston area and prior extensive time in academic medical centers. He also performs medical case reviews for workers’ compensation. His diverse clinical background has allowed him to care for a wide range of orthopedic conditions and patients from all walks of life. Dr. Kurylo earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from UCLA. His research contributions began at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and continued at Boston University School of Medicine where he published several papers and contributed to various medical projects. He completed his internship and orthopedic residency at Boston University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. Notably, Dr. Kurylo was involved in the hospital's emergency response to the Boston Marathon bombings, delivering care in an intense and complex environment. After residency, Dr. Kurylo completed a trauma fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, training with national leaders including past presidents of the AAOS and OTA. During that time, he also co-authored publications and book chapters. His early career in Boston included trauma coverage at multiple hospitals. Dr. Kurylo later moved to Northern California to help develop a comprehensive orthopedic trauma program in a medically underserved region. Over the past nine years, Dr. Kurylo has helped lead a busy orthopedic practice with his partners and physician assistants. The practice offers full-spectrum care—from pediatric fractures and complex trauma to joint reconstruction, infections, and neoplasms. As one of the few orthopedic traumatologists in the area, Dr. Kurylo and his team serve as a referral center for hospitals over 100 miles away. Their goal is to deliver academic-level care to rural communities. Dr Kurylo also mentors medical students and residents in orthopedic surgery and family medicine, supervises physician assistants, and manages a high-volume, referral-based practice treating both acute and chronic orthopedic issues. In addition to patient care, Dr. Kurylo serves as a medical expert witness. He assists both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury, medical malpractice, and standard-of-care cases. His engineering background and surgical expertise make him detail-oriented and analytical. He routinely reviews complex and extensive medical records and specializes in identifying subtle, but impactful, clinical details. He provides thorough, evidence-based, and objective evaluations which align with current standards of care. Dr. Kurylo is skilled at communicating complex concepts in clear, accessible language—just as he does with patients. Dr. Kurylo recently recertified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, completing hundreds of hours of CME, peer-reviewed case reviews, and performance evaluations. He remains current with developments in orthopedic trauma and general orthopedic surgery and upholds the highest standards of ethics and practice as a Fellow of both AAOS and ACS. What sets Dr. Kurylo apart as an expert witness is his ability to approach complex cases with clarity, objectivity, and attention to detail. He reviews all relevant records in a timely manner—from operative reports to nursing and anesthesia notes—and provides clear, unbiased opinions suited for both legal and lay audiences.
