Additional Information

Shannon Marie Foster MD FACS is originally from Akron Ohio and completed her undergraduate education at the University of Akron. She remained in Ohio to pursue her medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Relocation to Rochester Minnesota allowed completion of both General Surgery Residency and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Whilst at Mayo, administration and leadership opportunities, as well as community outreach and advocacy became a focus of her training and extra clinical efforts which continue to this day. Dr. Foster worked at Reading Hospital Trauma Center from 2009-2020. She was integral to the development of the Acute Care Surgery line and the growth of the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care programs, leading trauma clinical services and performance improvement initiatives. She also served as the physician liaison for all Outreach, Prevention and EMS services. Activity in the medical staff leadership arena included appointments on both the Credentials and By-Laws Committees and co-chair of the Ethics Committee. It was this combined clinical and administrative experience that led to opportunities to pursue independent work in the realm of external quality consulting, peer review services, and professional development. Dr. Foster continues to practice clinically at both Level 1 and Level 2 Trauma Centers. She remains an avid teacher, mentor and advocate. Dr. Foster is actively engaged holding leadership positions with several national specialty organizations including the Association of Women Surgeons and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma. She is heavily committed to the goals of the American College of Surgeons – both locally as President of the Keystone Chapter and nationally as an elected Governor-At-Large for Pennsylvania. Dr. Foster is always actively learning and exploring the complex profession and business of medicine.
