I am a doctoral-prepared bedside registered nurse, working in a large academic medical center. I care for patients with complex airways, cervical instability, multi-drain management, invasive monitoring, complex wounds, pain management and surgical interventions from many services: orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, thoracics, and gastrointestinal medicine. I was selected as one of 40 nurses in the country tasked with re-writing the Scope & Standards of Nursing Practice for an organization that serves the nation's 3 million nurses. I teach nursing on a part-time basis from the undergraduate through the doctoral level. At any given time, I have taught medical-surgical nursing, pathophysiology, psychiatric nursing, nursing research and pharmacology. I am a column editor for a national nursing association, and have published a number of articles. I serve as an Institutional Review Board (IRB) member for a hospital and analyze and summarize hundreds of pages of documents into short briefs with a listing of key issues. I hold professional certifications in medical-surgical nursing, trauma nursing, burn nursing, and telemetry.
