Josephson-Werdowatz & Associates (JWA), founded in 1988 and with licenses in thirty states, has provided structural design and construction defect investigations/evaluations across the United States and abroad. Structural evaluations included wood, masonry, steel, and concrete structures, with particular emphasis on seismic and wind design. JWA has experience working with specialty materials such as acrylic, aluminum, and glass as well. Evaluations also include code review and analysis, and standard of care analysis. JWA has extensive experience with geotechnical structures such as special foundations, underpinning, retaining walls, tie-backs, and soil nails, among others. JWA strives for a reasoned, accurate, and practical solution to structural engineering problems and deficiencies. Principal Structural Engineers Carl H. Josephson, PE, SE; Dan R. Werdowatz PE, SE; and Stephen P. Kerr, PE, SE have been retained as expert witnesses in over 1,500 cases for plaintiff and defense clients and have provided testimony in deposition or trial on over 500 occasions. Mr. Josephson, who has over 43 years of structural engineering experience, is active in numerous professional organizations, and has served as the Structural Engineer member of the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Mr. Werdowatz has over 38 years of structural engineering experience with a BSCE from San Diego State University and an MS (Structures) from University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Kerr, a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with over 28 years of experience, has been actively involved in the national code-development process and was recently elected to the College of Fellows of the Structural Engineers Association of California. Mr. Werdowatz and Mr. Josephson also act as court-appointed neutral experts. JWA has extensive trial graphics capabilities including state-of-the-art computer modelling and animations, as well as the creation of physical models.
