Dr. Love is an award-winning toxicologist recognized with multiple awards for her research at national and international scientific meetings and by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She has over seven years of toxicology experience across academic and federal government research settings, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the National Toxicology Program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). She holds a Ph.D. in Toxicology & Environmental Medicine from UNC Chapel Hill, where she also completed postdoctoral training. Dr. Love's expertise spans inhalation and respiratory toxicology, cannabis/cannabinoids and vaping products, PFAS and environmental contaminants, reproductive and developmental toxicology, and pharmaceutical preclinical safety. She provides scientific consulting and expert witness services across regulatory, medico-legal, and forensic toxicology matters, with an emphasis on making rigorous science understandable and useful in a legal context. AREAS OF EXPERTISE: • Inhalation & Respiratory Toxicology — Respiratory effects of inhaled exposures, including e-cigarette and vaping products, combustion and thermal degradation products, nanomaterials, and other complex aerosol mixtures. • Cannabinoid & Vaping Product Science — Chemistry, composition, and health effects of e-cigarette and cannabinoid products, including delta-9-THC and hemp-derived cannabinoids (CBD, delta-8-THC, and THCA, etc.); regulatory support for vaping products such as Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PMTA) matters. • Drugs of Abuse & Forensic Toxicology — Pharmacology, metabolism, and health effects of controlled substances and psychoactive drugs, including methamphetamine, opioids, cocaine, and psychedelics; interpretation of biological drug testing (blood, urine, hair) and impairment/intoxication analysis. • PFAS & Environmental Contaminants — Health effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other environmental contaminants, including developmental and mechanistic evaluation. • Reproductive & Developmental Toxicology — Effects of chemical exposures on development, including in utero and early-life windows of susceptibility. • Pharmaceutical & Preclinical Safety — Preclinical safety and efficacy evaluation of drug products, including inhaled therapeutics. • Chemical Mixtures & Constituent Effects — Analyzing complex, multi-component exposures and their toxicological effects. • Mechanism of Action — How chemical exposures produce cellular and physiological injury, evaluated through mode-of-action and adverse outcome pathway frameworks. • Hazard & Dose-Response Evaluation — Hazard identification and dose-response assessment to determine the toxicological significance of an exposure. • Weight-of-Evidence & Causation — Evaluating whether the available scientific evidence supports a claimed link between an exposure and a health effect. • Study Design & Methodological Critique — Designing and interpreting laboratory toxicology studies, applying scientific, statistical, and computational training to judge the quality and reliability of others' study designs and analyses. • Evidence Synthesis — Reviewing and synthesizing large, fast-moving bodies of scientific literature, including as the author of multiple published reviews. • Scientific Communication — Extensive teaching experience across undergraduate and graduate courses in toxicology, biochemistry, biology, and statistics, along with public science communication to non-expert audiences.
