Brent Riley serves as the President of Capra Cyber, a cybersecurity and incident response consultancy with offices in the United States and the United Kingdom. He previously founded Lyra Recovery, a leading international ransomware and network recovery firm. In both of these roles, and in previous cyber consulting, Brent worked closely with cyber insurance providers and breach counsel attorneys to support companies of all sizes who had experienced cyber attacks. This included creating incident containment and recovery strategies, performing digital forensics, and managing the overall incident to ensure clients returned to operation safely and quickly. While leading these companies, Brent has also served as an expert witness in cybercrime, ransomware, business email compromise, wire fraud, insider threats, data theft, and intellectual property matters. He has rendered opinions related to these topics on behalf of plaintiffs, defendants, and as an appointed independent party. Prior to becoming an incident response consultant, Brent was employed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation as a Cybercrimes Special Agent. Brent also served the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office in Virginia for over nine years, working as a Detective and running the Computer Forensics Lab. These roles involved testifying in hundreds of criminal matters and as an expert in digital forensics. Brent holds a Master of Computer Science degree from University College Dublin in Ireland where he graduated with High Honours. He also holds, or has held, certifications from SANS (GIAC Certified Incident Handler and GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst), IACIS Certified Forensic Computer Examiner, Access Data Certified Forensic Examiner. Brent's thought leadership has been published in numerous print and online journals, blogs, and news sites. He is a frequent public speaker on topics of cybersecurity, ransomware, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency payments, cybercrime, identify fraud, and theft of intellectual property.
