Sheena Black, MD is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopic procedures. Her particular interests include arthroscopic treatment of injuries of the knee, shoulder, and hip as well as reconstructive and replacement surgery of the knee and shoulder. After graduating summa cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Black attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, an honor given to those graduating in the top 10% of their class. Her post-graduate training includes an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. Dr. Black completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, where she trained directly under many of the world’s top experts in orthopedic sports medicine and hip, shoulder, and knee arthroscopy and reconstruction. During her fellowship, she was an assistant team physician for the New York Knicks and Iona College. Throughout her clinical training, Dr. Black has been involved in research in the field of orthopedics. She is the author of many peer-reviewed scientific papers and has presented at national meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopic Association of North America. In her spare time, Dr. Black enjoys spending time with her husband and chasing after their two sons and Labrador. She is also a sports enthusiast and likes staying active with running, golfing, skiing, yoga, and group fitness classes.
