Additional Information

Dr. Michael Wallerich is a residency-trained neuro-optometrist in brain injury vision rehabilitation/neuro-optometry from the Palo Alto VA Healthcare Center. He worked in inpatient and outpatient settings and saw patients at their bedside — uncommon for optometrists. Since 2017, Dr. Wallerich has evaluated thousands of patients with mild, moderate, and severe traumatic and acquired brain injuries involving motor vehicle accidents, assaults, work-related injuries, plane crashes, railroad accidents, defective products, and many other mechanisms of injury. He has served as an expert witness and medical-legal narrator for 100+ patients. Cases have included peripheral vision loss, central vision loss, double vision, color vision loss, contrast sensitivity loss, orbital trauma, intracranial pathology consistent with neuro-ophthalmic disease, traumatic optic neuropathies, retinal injuries, and eye & vision disorders affecting eye alignment (strabismus, convergence insufficiency, vertical heterophoria, cyclotorsion, nystagmus, divergence insufficiency, esophoria, and non-comitant eye deviations). Swoop Eye Care receives 1,200+ direct referrals annually from physical medicine & rehabilitation, ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, optometry, neuro-optometry, neurology, sports medicine, rehabilitative therapists, neurosurgery, neurotology, otology, family medicine, internal medicine, and many other professionals from leading medical institutions in the Upper Midwest. Swoop Eye Care uses the latest diagnostic technologies to deliver excellent clinical care and generate the objective documentation needed to support patient outcomes. These include optical coherence tomography, visual field testing with Olleyes (created by neuro-ophthalmology), the Neos device (quantitative objective testing for eye alignment disorders), the Neurolens device, Optos California, and many other technologies. Outside of clinical duties, Dr. Wallerich consults with industry on medical devices for eye tracking and therapeutic ophthalmic lenses, and conducts clinical research with academic institutions. He is an invited speaker at 20+ events annually for neuro-optometry, locally and nationally. Dr. Wallerich is available to perform independent medical examinations, provide expert witness services, review medical records, and serve as a witness in depositions and at trial. Expect the reports to be as follows: - Medical Record Review: Extensive evaluation of records to assess the standard of care, causation of injury in question, and symptoms consistent with objective neuro-ophthalmic findings - Independent Medical Examinations (IME) & Defense Medical Examinations (DME): Assessment of eye & vision findings consistent with neuro-ophthalmic disease and binocular vision dysfunction (Neos device testing) consistent with traumatic brain injury (concussions, head trauma, etc.) by using the latest quantitative objective testing consistent with evidence-based clinical approach - Medical Legal Narratives: Provide concise clinical findings in a digestible, straightforward manner to provide objective clinical findings to compare normal vs. abnormal results consistent with head trauma, injury, neuro-ophthalmic disease, and/or binocular vision dysfunction Swoop Eye Care - Clinical Website: www.swoopeye.com Swoop Eye Care - Medical Legal Neuro-Optometry Consulting: www.swooplegal.com
