Current responsibilities include serving as the District Director of Emergency Services for a large California healthcare district with executive oversight of two high-volume emergency departments, a Level II Trauma Program, a Rapid Response Team, Base Hospital operations, and chaplain services. Extensive bedside emergency nursing experience caring for patients across the lifespan with conditions ranging from minor illness and injury to high-acuity medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, pediatric, psychiatric, and traumatic emergencies. Clinical practice includes rapid assessment, prioritization of care, emergency stabilization, triage, resuscitation, medication administration, trauma response, critical care coordination, patient and family education, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Experienced in the recognition and management of time-sensitive emergencies including stroke, sepsis, STEMI, respiratory failure, shock, and major trauma. Comprehensive understanding of emergency nursing standards of care, nursing judgment, documentation, communication, patient advocacy, and clinical decision-making in the fast-paced emergency department environment. Additional experience includes serving as a House Supervisor with responsibility for hospital-wide clinical and administrative operations during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Administrative oversight includes staffing, patient flow, bed management, escalation of patient safety concerns, coordination of higher levels of care, interfacility transfers, transfer center operations, capacity management, disaster response, and executive decision-making during complex patient care situations. Comprehensive knowledge of EMTALA requirements, transfer center operations, transfer acceptance processes, hospital administration, and healthcare operations. Leadership of multiple Lean Six Sigma quality improvement initiatives involving emergency department throughput, trauma systems, patient safety, workplace violence prevention, sepsis care, rapid response systems, and transfer processes. Significant experience conducting root cause analyses, evaluating adverse events, implementing corrective action plans, and developing sustainable process improvements. Thorough knowledge of standards established by The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), EMTALA requirements, California nursing regulations, and nationally recognized emergency nursing standards.
