Kathy Chamberlain is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) with over 30 years in neonatal nursing, including 24 years as a certified neonatal nurse and 8 years as a board certified NNP. She provides expert care for neonates in level 3 and level 4 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). She specializes in management of Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW), preterm and ill newborns. Kathy manages the care of newborns with a variety of diagnoses such as extreme prematurity, respiratory distress, intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), chronic lung disease, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), sepsis, congenital heart defects, birth defects, metabolic disorders, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and pre- and post-op management of neonates requiring surgery. Kathy holds a doctor of nursing practice degree (DNP) and a masters degree in nursing with a specialization in healthcare education. She is certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Instructor and utilizes simulation to train doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists to provide quality resuscitation during attendance at high risk deliveries and in the NICU. Kathy is certified by the National Certification Corporation in Extremely Low Birth Weight (C-ELBW) care. In addition to her role as a provider in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), she also formally and informally educates and trains nurses, respiratory therapists, and fellow NNPs in neonatal disease process, diagnostics, treatments, developmental care, and current research. She began her legal nurse consultant (LNC) journey in 2013 and has reviewed cases across the country. In addition to expert witness testimony, she provides education and assistance with research and demonstrative evidence for the legal team to prepare for the case.
