13Additional Information
I am a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician with over a decade of high-acuity clinical experience spanning rural emergency medicine, critical access hospitals, and urgent care settings. In addition to my Medical Degree (MD), I hold a Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA), providing me with dual expertise in both frontline clinical care and hospital systems management. My clinical background is uniquely suited to reviewing standard of care cases involving family medicine physicians operating in acute care environments. Following my tenure as Chief Resident at Smoky Hill Family Medicine, I spent six years practicing in a Level III trauma center emergency department. I subsequently spent three years practicing in a Level IV trauma center. Currently, I serve as the Medical Director and practicing physician for a high-volume urgent care center, where I actively supervise a team of multiple Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). In addition to my urgent care leadership, I maintain an active clinical practice by performing locum tenens work in critical access emergency rooms. A core focus of my medical-legal consulting involves mid-level provider liability. As the Medical Director and practicing physician for the Salina Regional Urgent Care system, I directly supervise a team of 8 to 10 Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants). I am intimately familiar with the legal, administrative, and clinical oversight requirements necessary for effective APP supervision, making me highly qualified to review "failure to supervise" claims and urgent care standard of care cases. AREAS OF MEDICOLEGAL EXPERTISE: Urgent Care & ER Standard of Care: Evaluating clinical decisions by family medicine physicians in critical access ERs and urgent care clinics. APP/Mid-Level Supervision: Analyzing the clinical oversight, chart review, and protocols of NPs and PAs. Rural Medicine: Assessing standards of care within the realities of resource-limited, lower-level trauma centers. Forensic & Death Investigations: Serving as District Coroner for multiple counties, performing unattended death investigations. Prehospital Care: Medical Director for county EMS and Fire services, overseeing paramedic protocols. LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES: Medical Director, Salina Regional Urgent Care Medical Director, McPherson County EMS & Fire Medical Director, Saline County Health Department & CKF Addiction Treatment District Coroner (Districts 12, 21, and 28 in Kansas) ACADEMIC & TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I have a strong background in communicating complex medical concepts to varied audiences. I serve as an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Salina Campus, where I also spent four years as the Lead Instructor for Ultrasound and Clinical Simulation. I have also served as Faculty for the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency program. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Licenses: Active Medical Licenses in Kansas, Illinois, and Nebraska. Certifications: Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS). Fellowships: Ultrasound Leadership Academy. I am available for objective chart review, standard of care evaluations, and expert testimony for both plaintiff and defense counsel.
