Daniel W. Bradford, MD, MPH, is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 23 years of experience in clinical and academic psychiatry, psychiatric assessment, disability evaluation, medical record review, and complex behavioral health consultation. He is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He is a Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University. Dr. Bradford has extensive experience evaluating psychiatric diagnoses, functional impairment, disability, psychiatric treatment, and standards of care. His areas of expertise include serious mental illness, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, suicide and self-harm risk assessment, psychiatric medications, treatment-resistant psychiatric illness, co-occurring disorders, and community-based mental health treatment. For more than two decades, Dr. Bradford has performed psychiatric disability evaluations and reviewed complex medical and psychiatric records. He has extensive experience providing independent physician opinions regarding psychiatric diagnoses, functional limitations, treatment, prognosis, medical necessity, and level of care. His independent medical review work has included thousands of psychiatric and behavioral health cases. Dr. Bradford serves in national mental health leadership roles within a federal agency. His work includes national leadership related to intensive community mental health services for individuals with serious mental illness. He also serves as Medical Director of a national psychotic disorders consultation program, providing expertise in schizophrenia, complex psychotic disorders, treatment-resistant illness, and clozapine. As a Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University, Dr. Bradford has extensive academic and teaching experience. His work includes the education of physicians and other mental health professionals, clinical consultation, and translating psychiatric evidence and standards into clinical practice. He has contributed to national education and consultation regarding serious mental illness and complex psychiatric care. Dr. Bradford earned his medical degree and Master of Public Health degree and completed psychiatry residency training at the University of North Carolina. He has been recognized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for his contributions to mental health care and advocacy. Dr. Bradford is available to consult for plaintiff and defense counsel regarding psychiatric medical record review, psychiatric standard of care, disability and functional impairment, complex psychiatric diagnoses and treatment, independent psychiatric opinions, expert reports, depositions, and testimony.
