Dr. Levine is a computer scientist with over 40 years of experience in computer networks, electronic mail, and Internet standards. Since he wrote the best selling "The Internet for Dummies" in the 1990s he has been writing and consulting on those topics. He has been retained as an expert in dozens of cases, and has testified in multiple US Federal courts. His clients have included Google, and Yahoo. - Networks and protocols, e.g., the Internet, TCP/IP - Electronic mail - Domain Name System (DNS) - Software copyright - Software patents - Computer compiler, linker, and loader software He is a member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN SSAC), which provides expert advice to ICANN on DNS security. He is a long time participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) which creates standards for the Internet. He is the author or co-author of 16 Request For Comments (RFC) documents. These include RFC 9989, "Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance", RFC 9859 "Generalized DNS Notifications", RFC 8616 "Email Authentication for Internationalized Mail", RFC 8058 "Signaling One-Click Functionality for List Email Headers", and RFC 6783 "Mailing Lists and Non-ASCII Addresses." He is the President of the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email (CAUCE), the leading grass-roots anti-spam organization. For six years he was on the board of the Internet Society. Dr. Levine holds a B.A. in economics and computer-science from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Yale.
