Additional Information

Brad Laymon, PA-C, CPC, CEMC is a Physician Associate with 27 years of continuous urgent care clinical experience and dual certification in medical coding — Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC), both held for approximately 12 years. He remains actively practicing in urgent care and brings both current clinical perspective and deep coding expertise to every case engagement. Mr. Laymon's clinical experience spans the full scope of urgent care and occupational medicine, including the evaluation and treatment of workplace injuries, return to work determinations, workers compensation cases, musculoskeletal trauma, lacerations and wound care, respiratory illness, chest pain evaluation, fracture management, soft tissue injuries, and acute diagnostic workups involving missed or delayed diagnoses. He has assessed and treated thousands of occupational medicine cases in the urgent care setting and is thoroughly familiar with the documentation standards expected of urgent care providers managing work injury cases. His expert witness and consulting work centers on three areas: urgent care standard of care, occupational medicine standard of care, and medical coding and documentation compliance. In coding and documentation cases, Mr. Laymon evaluates whether clinical records meet the requirements for the level of service billed, whether documentation supports the diagnoses coded, whether upcoding or undercoding has occurred, and whether deficient documentation contributed to a clinical or billing outcome. He is one of a small number of active clinicians who holds both the CPC and CEMC credentials simultaneously, giving him the ability to speak directly to the intersection of clinical care and coding accuracy in litigation. Mr. Laymon is the founder of Coding Excellence, a national consulting and education practice serving healthcare organizations across multiple specialties. He is also the founder of Laymon Medical Expert Consulting, his dedicated medical legal consulting practice. He has authored seven books on medical coding and documentation. He speaks at multiple national medical conferences annually on documentation risk, coding compliance, and malpractice prevention. Mr. Laymon is available for chart review, written expert reports, deposition, and trial testimony. He accepts cases on behalf of both plaintiff and defense counsel.
