Glenview, Illinois Traumatic Brain Injury and Headache Expert Witness (NOTE: The attorneys are always very satisfied with my work and frequently refer to me as “about the best expert we have hired”. I work hard on the cases, bill fairly ($375 per hour) and produce a professional comprehensive report in a timely manner.) I provide physician expert witness services in cases involving traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic headache, concussion, post-concussion syndrome, migraine, and chronic headache-related impairment. My work focuses on careful review of medical records, analysis of standard of care, assessment of causation, and clear explanation of complex neurologic issues for attorneys, judges, and juries. CV available on request. I have written 420 articles/abstracts and 8 books (the latest=”Neurology and Psychiatry”) I teach neurology to residents and students, and lecture internationally. Case Types I am available for review and testimony in cases involving: • Traumatic brain injury • Mild traumatic brain injury and concussion • Post-traumatic headache • Post-concussion syndrome • Chronic migraine after head injury • Delayed diagnosis or mismanagement of neurologic symptoms • Headache-related disability and functional impairment • Causation disputes involving pre-existing headache disorders versus injury-related worsening • Cranio-cervical pain syndromes related to trauma • Complex neurologic pain presentations following accidents, falls, workplace injury, etc. Services Provided My expert witness services include: • Initial case screening and merit review • Comprehensive medical record review • Standard of care analysis • Causation assessment • Evaluation of symptom chronology and clinical consistency • Review of diagnostic workup, imaging, and treatment course • Written expert reports • Deposition testimony • Trial testimony • Rebuttal opinions Areas of Expertise I teach neurology and psychiatry; I subspecialized in headache medicine and psychopharmacology My work is especially suited to cases involving: • Headache medicine • Migraine and chronic daily headache • Post-traumatic headache • Psychiatric aspects post-concussion • Concussion and post-concussion symptomatology • Neurologic pain mechanisms • Functional impact of persistent headache disorders • Longitudinal analysis of symptoms, treatment response, impairment, and prognosis Value to Counsel I help counsel evaluate whether the medical evidence supports the claimed injury, whether the clinical course is consistent with traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic headache, and whether a patient’s symptoms more likely reflect new injury, exacerbation of a pre-existing condition, or an alternative explanation. My opinions are grounded in careful review of the record, clinical reasoning, and clear communication. I aim to translate complicated neurologic concepts into language that is understandable and useful in deposition and at trial. Issues Commonly Addressed I am usually asked to evaluate: • Whether a head injury is medically consistent with later headache and post-concussive complaints • Whether post-concussive symptoms are supported by the record • Whether migraine and other post-concussive symptoms were present before the injury • Whether trauma plausibly triggered, worsened, or prolonged headaches and other symptoms • Whether diagnostic evaluation and follow-up met accepted standards • Whether persistent symptoms are neurologically plausible and documented • Whether psychological factors are playing a role • Whether claimed disability is medically supported Lawrence Robbins, M.D. Glenview, Ill. 847 7071948.
