Michael Boyce, PhD, is a human factors expert specializing in usability, accessibility, and assistive technology. He is Principal of Boyce Human Performance, LLC, and has spent 12+ years applying human factors methods in healthcare and defense settings. His expertise covers usability evaluation (formative and summative) of medical and consumer systems; task analysis and use-related risk analysis; accessibility, ADA, and Section 508; assistive technology and mobility devices, including wheelchairs; design of instructions for emergency evacuation of adults with disabilities (published in Applied Ergonomics); augmented and virtual reality; simulation-based training; and human performance measurement, including wearable physiological data (heart rate variability, electrodermal activity). Dr. Boyce led human factors research programs for the U.S. Army on simulation-based training, human-machine interaction, and augmented reality (Best S&T Program award, 2021).
