George Miller, MD, is Division Chief of Surgical Oncology and the Medical Director of Oncologic Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center. Dr. Miller, certified by the American Board of Surgery, is one of the nation's leading surgeon-investigators, with a distinguished career as an accomplished surgeon and scientist. He is a highly experienced general surgeon and surgical oncologist recognized for his expertise in the treatment of complex surgical and oncologic diseases and hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal cancers, especially those affecting the liver, pancreas, and GI tract. He as performed more than 2,000 complex general surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical oncology operations with fantastic results. Dr. Miller maintains an active clinical surgical practice. He completed his residency training in General Surgery at NYU and a trio of fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery, and Experimental Immunotherapy. Dr. Miller was on the faculty of NYU for nearly 20 years where he was a Full Professor and held an Endowed Chair in both Surgery and Cell Biology. He was Chair of NYU's Tumor Immunology & Therapeutics Program and Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery where he led NYU's NIH-funded GI cancer training program. Dr. Miller directed one of the leading cancer research labs in the world. His research has been published in leading journals including Nature, Nature Medicine, and Cell. He has also developed an array of new cancer therapeutics that have entered Phase I and Phase II clinical trial testing and he founded a successful start-up company focusing on the development of novel immune-based therapies. His work has led to more than 50 provisional patent applications. His seminal work includes contributions to the roles of the microbiome, innate immunity, and inflammatory cell death in oncogenesis. He was also PI on numerous therapeutic clinical trials. Dr. Miller is a highly recognized lecturer and keynote speaker in the field of cancer research and oncologic and general surgery. Dr. Miller has been recognized with several prestigious awards from organizations such as the Society of University Surgeons, the American Liver Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research, as well as the Ruth Leff Siegel Award given annually to scientists making the most important contribution to pancreatic cancer research. His research was funded by the NIH for nearly 2 decades.
