Domenico Savatta, MD, FACS, is a board-certified urologist and clinically active robotic urologic surgeon with experience in robotic urologic surgery, urologic oncology, general urology, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, renal surgery, transperineal prostate biopsy, and perioperative urologic care. He serves as Chief of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Adult Urologic Surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and maintains active hospital practice, including RWJBarnabas Health Rahway Hospital. He also performs robotic urologic surgery in West Virginia hospital practice. Dr. Savatta earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from The Cooper Union, graduating summa cum laude, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed surgical training and urology residency at Indiana University. His engineering background and surgical training inform a practical, systems-based approach to evaluating operative judgment, technique, perioperative decision-making, complications, and standard of care in urology matters. His clinical background includes robotic prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy and nephrectomy, robotic simple prostatectomy, minimally invasive BPH procedures, transperineal prostate biopsy, and management of prostate and kidney disease in hospital and operative settings. He has served as an Intuitive Surgical robotic surgeon-led instructor and robotic proctor, and has participated in program development, live operative teaching, and clinical research. His work has included development of transperineal prostate biopsy programs and leadership in minimally invasive and robotic urologic surgery. Dr. Savatta has authored peer-reviewed publications in urology and related clinical topics, including robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, a renal/urologic pathology case report, and earlier work in infectious disease practice. He has also participated in clinical trials and research involving metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, BPH technology, localized prostate cancer therapy, laparoscopic renal surgery, high-intensity focused ultrasound, and gene therapy research. In medico-legal work, Dr. Savatta has been retained for confidential review in urology matters for both plaintiff and defense counsel. His work has included record review, case screening, and standard-of-care assessment. Prior matters have not required deposition testimony to date. He is available for review in state and federal matters involving robotic urologic surgery, urologic oncology, general urology, BPH, prostate cancer, renal surgery, perioperative urologic care, hospital-based urologic care, surgical complications, and related standard-of-care issues. He is licensed in New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia.
