Additional Information

I am Dr. Maryam Ghiassi, MD, a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases. I currently practice in Sacramento, California with Retina Consultants Medical Group. I grew up in Canada, Iran, and Japan before moving to the U.S. for college. I majored in biophysics and biochemistry at Yale University and continued my studies there for medical school, where I discovered my passion for ophthalmology. Afterward, I completed an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where I had the honor of serving as chief resident. I then completed my vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. My international upbringing has fostered a deep appreciation for different cultures and value systems, which significantly influences my patient-centered approach to care. I believe that understanding each patient's unique needs, concerns, and goals is essential to providing the highest level of care. During my residency and fellowship, I developed an interest in medical recruitment while searching for my first job. Recognizing the lack of comprehensive resources for graduating fellows, I co-founded a firm with Dr. Camacci. Our goal is to bridge this gap by leveraging our extensive networks and appreciation for diverse cultures, ensuring the best possible fit for both practitioners and healthcare institutions.
