He has served in leadership capacities in government, commercial and academic settings, providing deep expertise in empirical study design and statistical methods. For several year years, Dr. Dougherty served as principal investigator for the U.S. News and World Report hospital rankings program, and is a nationally recognized expert in measuring quality of medical care. Dr. Dougherty has expertise in statistical methods and study design for numerous health conditions, including cancer, diabetes, opioid use disorder and others. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Dougherty served as a reporter, editor and data analyst for leading news publications, including the Miami Herald and law.com. He has years of experience covering legal affairs and observing courtroom proceedings, including civil and criminal trials. He has deep expertise in communicating complex scientific concepts to non-technical audiences.
