Dr. René Loyola is a highly experienced General and Vascular Surgeon with over forty years of hands-on clinical practice, including extensive work in wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), trauma, vascular compromise, infection management, and complex surgical wound complications. He trained at one of the top surgical programs in the country (University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital), completing a full general surgery residency during the era when vascular surgery was fully incorporated into general surgical training. He later became a long-standing member of the Society for Vascular Surgery based on his extensive clinical work, advanced coursework, and broad experience treating vascular disease, ischemic limbs, nonhealing wounds, and limb-threatening infections. Dr. Loyola has managed thousands of complex wounds throughout his career, including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, necrotic and ischemic tissue loss, surgical wound dehiscence, delayed presentations, traumatic soft tissue injuries, and postoperative infections. He is HBOT-certified and served as the sole hyperbaric physician in a hospital-owned wound center, where he evaluated, triaged, and treated patients with severe wounds, ischemia, radiation injury, compromised grafts/flaps, and nonhealing postoperative complications. His background includes: • 40+ years clinical surgical experience • General and vascular surgery, trauma, acute care, and chronic wound management • HBOT-certified physician; extensive experience in tissue oxygenation and hyperbaric indications • Advanced wound care including debridement, surgical excision, and infection control • Evaluation of standard of care in wound progression, documentation, and triage • Management of ischemic limbs, necrotizing infections, and limb salvage cases • Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, NPs, and PAs for decades • Mission work in underserved countries performing surgical and complex wound care • Broad clinical judgment in differentiating avoidable versus unavoidable wound deterioration Dr. Loyola is available for case review, opinions on standard of care, wound evaluation, surgical complications, ischemia-related injuries, wound progression analysis, HBOT indications, delayed diagnosis, postoperative complications, and related medical-legal matters.
