Additional Information

I'm fellowship trained and board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology, and Pediatrics, and also board certified in Addiction Medicine and Health Care Leadership, Administration, and Management. I have 25 years of experience providing and overseeing care in pediatric emergency departments and emergency departments including in major children's hospitals and Level 1 trauma centers, currently at the largest children's emergency department in the US. I am the lead editor of the 2nd most widely used pediatric emergency medicine textbook in the USA, The 5 Minute Pediatric Emergency Medicine Consult, and I have over 300 publications in the areas of pediatric emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and emergency medicine. I am frequently invited to lecture nationally and internationally on topics of pediatric emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and emergency medicine. My pediatric emergency medicine practice focuses on the management of critically ill and injured children, with expertise in pediatric trauma, airway emergencies, sepsis, child maltreatment, and complex medical presentations. I have served in multiple leadership roles including Division Chief, Medical Director, Research Director, Fellowship Director, Residency Director in the areas of pediatric emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and emergency medicine, and these cover responsible for clinical operations, peer review, quality and safety, and academics and education. As consultant and expert, I am particularly capable of knowing and assessing whether standard of care is met within the specialties of pediatric emergency medicine, emergency medicine, and pediatrics, accounting for resource constraints and decision-making pressures of emergency care settings. I have extensive experience in clinical pathways and standard of care, including regional variations in standard of care within the USA. As an editor of a textbook that covers every aspect of pediatric emergency medicine, I interact with pediatric emergency physicians from across the country; this provides me with a uniquely broad insight into standard of care. This has proven highly useful in cases, especially when evaluating and responding to depositions and expert reports of opposing physician experts. As an expert witness, I accept cases based on merit, and my practice is approximately evenly split between plaintiff and defendant. I take cases based exclusively on merit, and I regularly decline cases that I believe lack merit. I provide objective, evidence-based opinions grounded in current guidelines, published literature, and practical understanding of pediatric emergency care and medical toxicology. My reviews and expert reports reflect the current accepted standards of care, complexities and context in which care is delivered, and circumstances unique to each case. I am always committed to provide thorough, objective analyses of facts, and pride myself on ability to be equally diligent and critical in cases for defense of physicians and healthcare institutions as well as for plaintiffs.
