Dr. Keyne Johnson-Nowlin is a board certified pediatric neurosurgeon who also specializes in adult spine surgery. With more than two decades of experience, she specializes in the evaluation and treatment of complex pediatric neurological disorders and adult spinal conditions. She provides independent, evidence based medical opinions for both plaintiff and defense counsel in matters involving standard of care, causation, damages, medical record review, deposition testimony, and trial testimony. She completed her undergraduate and medical education at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a neurosurgery residency at Duke University, where she became the institution’s first Black female neurosurgery resident. She then completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, becoming one of the first Black women in the United States to complete advanced fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery. Dr. Johnson-Nowlin has dedicated her career to treating infants, children, and adolescents with complex neurosurgical conditions while also caring for adults with spinal disorders. Her clinical expertise includes Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, tethered cord syndrome, spina bifida, pediatric brain tumors, epilepsy surgery, Moyamoya disease, pediatric trauma, scoliosis, cervical spine disorders, and adult spine surgery. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Johnson-Nowlin has authored peer reviewed publications, presented research nationally, and serves as clinical faculty at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, where she mentors future physicians. She is also committed to medical innovation. She is a member of the design team for SILC Bands, a scoliosis correction device designed to improve outcomes in pediatric spine surgery, and has developed an infant cranial remodeling device for the treatment of plagiocephaly. As a medical legal expert, Dr. Johnson-Nowlin is recognized for providing objective, thorough, and well supported opinions. She is known for explaining highly complex pediatric neurosurgical and spinal conditions in a clear, concise, and understandable manner for attorneys, judges, and juries. She is available for both plaintiff and defense matters and maintains active medical licenses in Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
