Dr. Tompkins is a board-certified dermatologist who has expertise in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. She is a native San Diegan who spent her undergraduate years at Stanford University with a major in Human Biology. She received her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and went on to complete an internal medicine internship at Charity Hospital. Dr. Tompkins completed her dermatology residency at Cornell-Weill Medical Center in New York City. She received instruction at many prestigious hospitals including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The New York Hospital, the Rockefeller Institute and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Tompkins joined private practice in 1999 after serving as a full-time professor at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine for five years. During that time, she demonstrated excellence in patient care and teaching while also serving as the Director of Clinical Dermatology. She owned and operated her own private practice for several years until merging with West Dermatology in 2016. During that time she continued her affiliation with UCSD as an Associate Voluntary Clinical Professor of Medicine/Dermatology for 30 years helping train hundreds of dermatology residents. She continues in clinical practice in Portland, Oregon. She is an experienced qualified medical evaluator with certification in both the states of California and Oregon as well as an expert witness. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and maintains her board certification with the American Board of Dermatology. In addition, she has been published in many of dermatology’s leading journals and is a nationally and internationally known lecturer helping teach general practitioners and other dermatologists for decades.
