April Vukelic, D.O., FMCP-M McGill Certified Physician |ReCODE 2.0 Certified Physician Dr. April Vukelic is a quadruple board-certified physician — American Board of Family Medicine, American Board of Preventive Medicine (Addiction Medicine), American Board of Addiction Medicine, and Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP). In 2022, she was appointed Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Vukelic is available to consult, review records, and provide expert testimony in the following areas: Biotoxin & Mold-Related Illness Dr. Vukelic practices in the field of biotoxin illness, including Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and mold illness caused by water-damaged buildings. She is Shoemaker Protocol certified, a founding member of CIRS Academy, and a member of ISEAI and ILADS. She authored one and co-authored seven textbook chapters with Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, Dr. Andrew Heyman, and Larry Schwartz, IEP, in Nutrition and Integrative Medicine: A Primer for Clinicians, Volume 2, which received the CIRSx/Shoemaker Book Award in 2023. She is also co-author of a peer-reviewed review article on CIRS indexed on PubMed (Annals of Medicine and Surgery, 2024). Addiction Medicine & Toxicology Holding two board certifications in addiction medicine, Dr. Vukelic offers expert witness services on matters involving impairment, intoxication, withdrawal, motor vehicle accidents involving drugs or alcohol, methadone use and impairment, and opiate addiction. She can address both the toxicology of substance use and its behavioral manifestations from the perspective of a board-certified addiction medicine physician. She formerly served as sole Medical Director for Charleroi Treatment Services and Alliance Medical Services (Pinnacle Treatment Centers), overseeing up to three methadone clinics and a Suboxone clinic with daily patient census of 700+ (peaking at 800), and spent nearly a decade as a Suboxone provider. Low Back Disorders & Spine Biomechanics Dr. Vukelic is one of only two physicians in the world certified by Dr. Stuart McGill, the internationally recognized authority on spine biomechanics and low back disorders. She has completed Dr. McGill's full course sequence and pursued advanced in-person training with Dr. McGill in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Combined with her advanced osteopathic training — including the full Biodynamics sequence (Phases I–X), Cranial Academy certification, and extensive study with Drs. Ed Stiles and James Jealous — she offers specialized expertise for cases involving low back injury, spine biomechanics, causation analysis in musculoskeletal trauma, and evaluation of treatment appropriateness. She also completed the Orthopedic Medicine International Norden Shoulder Course in 2024. Hospital & Family Medicine Dr. Vukelic's clinical background includes four years of inpatient hospital call during internship and residency at UPMC Mercy Hospital (Chief Resident, 2006–2008), followed by hospitalist work at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and six years of long-term acute care practice at Kindred Hospital, North Shore. She is available for cases involving wrongful death, hospital medicine, inpatient standard of care, and family medicine.
