Nancy Nielsen has 40 years of expertise as a neonatal nurse in large, academic Level III and IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), She has decades of experience attending high-risk neonatal deliveries, resuscitation, and post-delivery stabilization. Nancy has thorough knowledge and expertise in caring for various diagnoses including but not limited to abdominal wall defects, prematurity, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), tracheoesophageal fistulas (TEF), cardiac defects, metabolic abnormalities, meconium aspiration, intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), hydrocephalus, chronic lung disease (CLD), exchange transfusions, genetic abnormalities, hyperbilirubinemia, sepsis, IV complications, electrolyte imbalances, and hemolytic abnormalities. Nurse Nielsen provides expert care for critically-ill neonates requiring advanced modes of ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide therapy (iNO), arterial blood pressure monitoring (ABP) and sampling, total body cooling, medications, chest tubes, phototherapy, pre-op/post-op care, central lines, nutritional access, and amplitude-integrated electroencephalography monitoring (aEEG). She is a member of the American Association of Legal Nurses Consultants, Bay Area Chapter of Northern California Legal Nurse Consultants, National Association of Neonatal Nurses, and American Nurses Association. She has S.T.A.B.L.E and NRP certification. Additionally, Nancy trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and trauma-informed care. She functions as a preceptor and mentor for new hires as well as for coworkers learning to care for higher acuity infants. As a NICU transport nurse, she stabilizes and transports medically-fragile babies for treatment. Nancy has the unique ability to interpret complex issues and data into easily understandable terms.
