Additional Information

Dr. Lisa Marie Korst, FACOG, is a former obstetrician-gynecologist with specialized training and practice in medical literature review and synthesis. Her reports and testimony are used to explain complex obstetrical situations and assist any and all parties in understanding the frequency and context of adverse maternal and neonatal events and outcomes. Her particular interest and area of expertise is in fetal brain injury. She does not testify regarding standard of care or causation as she is retired from practice. Rather, her work is focused on formalized literature reviews that address a key issue pertinent to the litigation. Examples of such issues include: getting an unbiased assessment of the prevalence of specific maternal conditions or outcomes (eg, amniotic fluid embolism. placenta accreta spectrum, or sepsis) or neonatal outcomes (eg, midbrain or brainstem injury) and summarizing what is understood regarding uterine rupture outcomes. Dr. Korst will work collaboratively to structure the approach to key data collection and synthesis. She will write reports, organizing the relevant literature with hyperlinks for easy location, and will testify as needed. Dr. Korst completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Women’s Hospital in 1987, practiced from 1987 through 1991, and subsequently joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an officer in the Public Health Service. She completed her Ph.D. in Health Services at UCLA in 1999, specializing in research methods, including epidemiology and statistics. She has been faculty in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, UCLA, and University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine (USC), and in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). In 2006, she became independent and founded Childbirth Research Associates, LLC. Since then, she has initiated or contributed to research projects sponsored by the California Department of Public Health, the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). She continues to work on research projects sponsored by the USC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, and teaches faculty, fellows, residents, and students. The majority of her work has a basis in childbirth and, specifically, in maternal and neonatal outcomes, and has led to the publication of more than 130 peer-reviewed articles. Medical literature reviews have been a standard part of her work as a researcher, as these are key to understanding the basis of most research questions. On the subject of fetal brain injury, she has coauthored 11 peer-reviewed articles, 1 book chapter, and 2 non-peer-reviewed articles.
