Scott Papper, GG, CMA, RGA, AJP, CSMP, CSSP I am a fourth generation gem and jewelry professional who began working full time at my father’s pawnshop, Deerfield Pawnbrokers, in 2009, where I remained until 2021. I was able to gather a wealth of knowledge as I was responsible for evaluating and valuating jewelry, diamonds, gemstones, wristwatches, pocket watches, coins, and other antiquities on a regular basis. Other responsibilities included jewelry photography, market research, and sales. In 2017, after attaining the highest credential awarded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the field of gemology, Graduate Gemologist, I founded my own company, Global Gemology & Appraisals. In addition to appraising jewelry locally, I also undertook subcontracted appraisal assignments that required out-of-state travel to Georgia, Virginia, and Alabama. In 2020, I achieved the highest credential awarded by the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA), Certified Master Appraiser, and my company obtained NAJA Accredited Gemological Laboratory certification. These advancements in education and experience allowed me opportunities to work alongside attorneys and other estate planning professionals, offering Appraisal Reports prepared in conformity with USPAP to assist with calculation of estate taxes, as well as for assisting with equitable division. I also gained valuable knowledge and experience required to handle more complex, post-damage cases. In 2023, I earned the highest credential awarded by the International School of Gemology (ISG), Registered Gemologist Appraiser. Later that same year, I earned the CPAA Certified Cultured Pearl Specialist designation through the Cultured Pearl Association of America. Also in 2023, I was retained as an expert witness in a civil case involving stolen jewelry, appearing before a Judge to testify regarding the statements made in a post-loss appraisal report I prepared for the plaintiff.
