Dr. Kenneth Sykes, MD PhD is a fellowship-trained interventional pain anesthesiologist who treats both acute and chronic pain conditions, specializing in treating spinal pain, ranging from work accidents, personal injuries, sports injuries, and degenerative conditions. He is also an expert in other areas of general anesthesiology including patient safety, perioperative processes, surgical positioning, same day surgery, and regional (nerve block) anesthesia. He completed a family medicine internship at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa, then went on to complete a residency in anesthesiology and a pain management fellowship at the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Sykes brings a unique comprehensive perspective to anesthesiology and pain medicine as his training involved extensive scientific investigation of the underlying mechanisms of pain, having underwent extensive training studying the scientific underpinning of acute and chronic pain mechanisms and how it relates to opioid neurocircuitry. Clinically, Dr. Sykes has worked in both private practice and academic settings. He is a member of American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
