Mr. Matthew Furlong is the Director of Construction Litigation and specializes in construction defect and failure analysis, forensic engineering, scientific investigations, technical report writing and expert witness testimony for construction claims and litigation matters. Mr. Furlong has 21 years of experience with construction, project coordination and design, remodeling, and field inspections of building systems for residential, and commercial low and high-rise properties. He has successfully completed more than 600 unique and custom projects while as a general contractor. His builder background experience ranges from high-end new custom home construction, interior renovations and additions, to green building and energy efficient homes, historical renovations, timber-framing, and creating elaborate custom interiors in prestigious estate-sized homes. This experience gives Mr. Furlong the unique qualifications to testify as an expert in construction matters. As a professional consultant, Mr. Furlong provides services in the forensic investigation field related to construction defects, Building Code compliance, contract review and analysis, construction delay analysis and investigation. This includes building pathology, structural capability, home energy performance, EIF’s and stucco, failed showers systems, insulation and attic ventilation, siding/facades and rain screens, water and air infiltration and testing, vapor retarder/barriers, infrared thermography, moisture management, and evaluation of other building systems. As an expert witness, Mr. Furlong applies his extensive knowledge and expertise of building and construction practices, as well as job-site health and safety in order to provide the consumer and the legal community with relevant opinions and professional advice. Mr. Furlong's responsibilities within The Falcon Group are to provide our clients with expertise in construction defect forensic investigation, litigation support, building, electrical, and mechanical inspections, and expert legal support services. Additionally, Mr. Furlong’s expertise in Building Code analysis also contributes to our transition engineering/ warranty evaluations for our multi-family association community clients. Mr. Furlong holds a Virginia Class ‘A’ Contractor’s license with Residential and Commercial Building Contractor designations, as well as a Washington, D.C. General Contractor’s license, and a Pennsylvania Home Improvement license. Furthermore, Mr. Furlong is certified as a Residential and Commercial Building Inspector, as well as a certified Residential Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Inspector through the International Code Council (ICC). Mr. Furlong has served as an expert witness since 2014 and is qualified to provide reliable expert testimony and findings of fact for depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings.
