Richard P. Marvel, MD received his undergraduate degree at the Johns Hopkins University where he graduated with honors. Dr. Marvel earned his Medical Degree at West Virginia University and completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He has been on the academic faculty as an Assistant Professor at multiple academic centers including Hahnemann University School of Medicine, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Following his academic teaching career, he established the Center for Pelvic Pain and built an interdisciplinary practice dedicated to pelvic pain in 2003. His private practice is dedicated to patients with chronic pain conditions. He is an accomplished minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon. He has served on the Board of Directors of the International Pelvic Pain Society and is a Past President. He is a co-founder and serves on the Board of Directors for the Pudendal Neuralgia Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to patients who suffer from pudendal. He has extensive experience as a medical expert and has reviewed over 100 cases in the past 30 years. He has testified in multiple cases as both a plaintiff and defense expert. My published research includes a variety of pelvic pain conditions including vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, pudendal neuralgia, endometriosis, and pelvic venous disorders. He has been invited to speak on pelvic pain topics across the world including Istanbul, Scotland, Columbia, China, Cartagena, and Cairo. He has testified in front of a congressional committee to advocate for vulvodynia research. Some of the medicolegal cases he has been involved with include pudendal neuralgia, peripheral nerve injuries, post-surgical persistent pain, post-surgical nerve injuries, ureteral injuries, chronic pelvic pain, and hysterectomy complications. He has published 29 peer reviewed articles and book chapters.
