Dr. Potru is triple-board-certified in anesthesiology, interventional pain medicine, and addiction medicine; he is one of less than 25 clinicians across the country with this combination of certifications and has unique expertise as a result. Dr. Potru is a nationally recognized and well-published expert in the treatment of chronic pain and addiction as well as the treatment of the addicted patient in the perioperative period; he sits on and is an active contributor to numerous national anesthesia/pain committees. Dr. Potru has given talks at the American Society of Anesthesiologists conference, the American Academy of Pain Medicine national meeting, and multiple invited grand rounds presentations on anesthesiology, chronic pain and addiction, including at highly reputed institutions such as the Mayo Clinic. He has special interest in opioid safety/prescribing, opioid and other substance use disorders (addiction), and interventional pain medicine (joint injections and spinal procedures (including epidural injections, facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal drug delivery, among others). In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Potru has very strong writing and speaking skills as well as extensive experience in depositions, in-court testimony, disability evaluations, chart review, and utilization review.
