Additional Information

Coming from a strong scientific, medical, and broad educational background, I have applied myself as a professional expert and problem solver. I have been quoted with the statement, “Doctors have all the questions and none of the answers. Engineers have all the answers but don't know the questions”. Throughout my education, I continuously sought to enhance beyond my immediate field of study in order to better address the perspective that can only be appreciated from exposure to other disciplines. Although my academic major at MIT was in Biology, I took courses in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, and Architecture and also completed several courses at Harvard Medical School concurrently. I graduated with an equal familiarity of fabricating precise titanium or steel components in a machine shop using a lathe or milling machine, as I was under a microscope counting colonies on a petri dish. As Associate Professor of Surgery at UMass Medical School, I have taught anatomy, extensively undertaken lab research, and trained numerous students and residents. By networking engineers with practicing physicians, I have developed numerous industrial/academic relationships that have mushroomed into significant contributions including many patents. As Burn Unit Director at the former Worcester City Hospital, I was able to utilize the first lab created skin substitute for burn care outside of Boston. President Clinton recognized my innovative technique for robotic assisted burn eschar excision and sought me out to advise at a time of national emergency in Japan. I have also been invited to present to DARPA regarding my work with limb regeneration and bone length restoration. As a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with extensive regulatory experience, clinical expertise, and a working language of both medicine, manufacturing, and technology, I possess the necessary background to assist clients as an expert witness and advisor in a large range of medical and technical areas.
