Additional Information

My passion for surgical nursing and safe patient care began during my OR clinical rotation in nursing school. I had a wonderful instructor; strict yet encouraging nurse preceptors; excellent surgeon colleagues; and was immersed in a rich teaching environment. I knew this was where I wanted to be and immediately went to work in the OR as a new grad. Over 40 years later, I am fortunate to remain in the OR and have witnessed amazing technical and process improvements there. One thing remains the same, my commitment to my patients and my passion for a safe surgical environment. I strive to instill that same zeal into the many professionals I have taught when they land in the strange milieu of the OR. I have worked as a legal nurse consultant since 2010 and achieved the Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC) designation in 2014. I have served The Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) as a volunteer at both the local (former Chicago chapter) and national level. In 2017 I joined the board of directors of AALNC as a director at large and now proudly as President-elect 2020-21. I have been a member of AORN (Association of PeriOperative Nurses) my entire career and maintain my certification (CNOR) through the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). I have worked as both a consultant and expert witness with plaintiff and defense clients on a variety of OR cases; retained surgical items (RSIs); positioning; falls; burns; wrong site surgeries; and cardiac arrest, among others.
