Dr. Samakar is a board certified General Surgeon, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He completed a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School where he was also a clinical instructor of surgery. He is currently a faculty member of the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine where he serves as a full-time surgeon & Associate Professor, researcher, and educator. Dr. Samakar is the Director of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery program at USC Keck Medical Center. He holds a Master's degree in Bioethics and Health Law from the University of Pittsburgh and has been active in the study and practice of medical-legal issues for nearly 20 years. He has testified for both plaintiff and defense on multiple occasions with numerous depositions, trial testimony, and case reviews. Dr. Samakar's current areas of practice are Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery as well as full spectrum General Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Emergency Surgery. He is active in research and has published numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and presented both nationally and internationally. His previous accomplishments include receiving the "Outstanding Surgeon of the Year Award" as well as "Chief Resident of the Year Award."
