Dr. Arts has over 33 years of experience in clinical and academic practice of Otology and Neurotology, with special expertise in acoustic neuroma, cranial base surgery, cochlear implants, chronic ear surgery, stapedectomy surgery, facial paralysis, Meniere's disease, balance disorders, and all forms of hearing loss. He has been active in research involving cochlear implants and other implantable hearing devices, inner ear physiology and pathology. He is on the Editorial Board of the journal Otology & Neurotology and is a member of the American Otological Society and the American Neurotology Society. He was the Program Director of the University of Michigan Neurotology Fellowship training program for 15 years and has served as a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology, for both the Otolaryngology Exam and the Neurotology Exam. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery at the University of Michigan and has an active surgical practice at the Iowa Ear Center in Des Moines, IA
