Additional Information

In April 2017, Lauren retired from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office after a distinguished 30-year career during which she handled some of Chicago's highest-profile police and correctional officer misconduct prosecutions. Lauren’s extensive prosecutorial and investigative review experience positions her as an invaluable independent consultant for undertaking case assessment, investigative assistance, expert witness work, and litigation support, for plaintiffs, prosecutors, police departments, municipalities, and defendant officers alike. During her first decade as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Lauren handled appeals, misdemeanors, felony review, preliminary hearings, grand jury investigations/indictments, narcotics prosecutions, sex crimes, child exploitation, and the gamut of felony cases, including first-degree murders. She litigated countless felony motions and trials in some of the busiest courtrooms in the country. The final two decades of her career, she was assigned to the Special Prosecutions Bureau, focusing on investigative review, indictment, and prosecution of law enforcement officers for alleged felony misconduct and the use of excessive force. In addition, Lauren's unit reviewed all of the officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths that took place in Cook County. She conducted grand jury investigations, drafted indictments, and interviewed hundreds of witnesses and law enforcement officers. As part of these investigations, Lauren regularly reviewed internal administrative investigations, officers’ disciplinary histories, department regulations, and use of force continuums. She worked closely with numerous investigative agencies and police departments, requested additional investigation if needed, and drafted detailed charging recommendation memorandums, many of which were reviewed by the elected State's Attorney. Lauren is certified by the Force Science Institute and is a member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations.
