I functioned as a full time active clinical acute care surgeon which included emergency general surgery, trauma surgery, and critical care service lines in a level 1 trauma hospital. I have clinical experience spanning over 4000 operative cases and over 15,000 intensive care unit cases throughout my career. I also trained in a heavy penetrating trauma program, giving me extensive experience within the realm of penetrating trauma. I also have the unique perspective of working in many different types of intensive care units (ICUs) including surgical, medical, neurocritical, cardiovascular, and transplant intensive care units.
Administratively, I functioned as medical director of the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) at a level 1 trauma center which allowed me to implement clinical practice guidelines as well as modify pre-existing guidelines, a process we refer to as performance improvement (PI).
