Dr. Gustin graduated from the University of Vermont magna cum laude, obtained a Master's degree in Nutrition, Biochemistry, and Metabolism from Goddard College, went to medical school at George Washington University in Washington DC where he distinguished himself as the President of the American Medical Student Association's section on Nutrition, Health Maintenance, and Disease Prevention.
