Dr. Spiegl received his orthopaedic training at Duke. He then did a fellowship in foot and ankle medicine and surgery at the Mayo Clinic, He was the first foot and ankle fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in Georgia when he began his practice in 1983. This gave him the opportunity to evaluate and/or treat a wide range of unusual and complicated foot and ankle conditions. He practiced on the campus of Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital for over 40 years, so he has had personal long-term follow-up of the patients for whom he has provided care. Dr. Spiegl obtained his American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery certification in 1986. He re-certified in 1996, 2006 and 2016 and he is on track to recertify in 2025 so that he will be board certified to December 31, 2036. Since 2007 I have been employed full time as an orthopedic surgeon at a large level 1 trauma center. I serve as the director of orthopedic trauma and have performed over 600 cases per year for 15+ years. I manage acute injuries to the upper and lower extremities surgically and non operatively and deal with the long term sequelae of these injuries including infection, nonunion, and nerve injury. As part of my role, I educate and train medical and physician assistant students. I also oversee quality control of the orthopedic trauma program and attend and participate in monthly quality meetings and M&M reviews. I also participate in local and national meetings as an educator and instructor. I routinely see patients in the office 2 days a week and manage the acute injuries, while also maintaining a practice in general orthopedics, including performing arthroscopy and joint replacement.
