I am a consultation-liaison and emergency room psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, specializing in the care of patients with co-morbid medical and psychiatric illness. I care for patients with medical complications of psychiatric illness or psychiatric medications, as well as psychiatric complications of medical illness or medications. As an emergency psychiatrist, I regularly perform risk assessment for suicide and harm to others and make decisions about whether patients need to be hospitalized involuntarily. Each week, I see dozens of patients with the following conditions: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders, PTSD, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and TBI.
