I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. My academic work comprises more than 70 papers, articles, textbook chapters, and lectures addressing a broad spectrum of topics. I was recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor from 2007--2010 and 2015--2016. In 2000, I was awarded the King Leon of Armenia Medal of Honor by the Embassy of Armenia for meritorious service. I served for many years as Chairman of Ophthalmology at Weiss Memorial Hospital. I am conversant in French and Spanish and know basic phrases in Vietnamese (all three useful during my career.)
I am board certified in ophthalmology, with both medical education and residency at the University of Chicago; advanced training in cataract surgery, Wills Eye Hospital and Cooper Hospital; and fellowship in oculoplastics at McGill University.
