I am a full-time board-certified Emergency Medicine Pharmacist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where I also serve as Volunteer Clinical Professor in the UCSF School of Pharmacy and Dept. of Emergency Medicine. I provide bedside clinical care and didactic and experiential teaching to pharmacy and medical trainees. With over 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine, Stroke, and Annals of Emergency Medicine, I bring expertise in medication safety and efficacy. I am also an author or editor of several medical textbooks and chapters and a frequent national lecturer, having delivered more than 50 presentations. As an expert witness, I have provided reviews, opinions, depositions, and testimony in over 40 state and federal cases. My current case mix is approximately 50% plaintiff / 50% defense.

I am a Board certified internist and PhD clinical pharmacology expert in drug action and effect with over 35 years of experience. I have been retained in almost 400 legal cases, for both defendants and plaintiffs, usually in medical malpractice cases in which adverse drug effects or actions are involved. I also have extensive expertise in drug litigation and patent disputes. In cases where drug prescribing, dosing, adverse effects and drug interactions are in question, I provide standard-of-care expert witness testimony. I am Board certified in Clinical Pharmacology and in Internal Medicine. I have been Chairman and Executive Director of the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology, President of the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and have been on multiple national committees. I teach and practice Clinical Pharmacology and Internal Medicine in an academic and clinical setting and am medical director of our County Pharmacy system
