After undergraduate studies in biochemistry at UCLA, I received my M.D. degree at UCSF, where I graduated in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. I then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center. I have since been a general internist in an academic primary care practice at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Over several decades of scholarly work, I have been promoted to Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. I have published approximately 200 peer reviewed articles and chapters on topics relevant to primary care internal medicine. My peer reviewed works have since been cited by authors of more than 7000 subsequent publications. My textbook on Evidence Based History Taking in the McGraw Hill Lange series is widely read by medical students in training.
