Dr. Simonson is an independent consultant clinical pharmacist. He has a part-time faculty position with Oregon State University and is active in lecturing, research and pharmacy practice. Simonson is a national thought leader on pharmacy and medication-related issues and is a Past President of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists as well as former chair of the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy. He provides expert witness services on medication-related matters in adults with a special focus on older adults. While he is not a full-time expert witness he has provided expert consultation on a wide variety of medication-related matters including: dispensing and prescribing errors, adverse drug side-effects and drug interactions, allergies to medications, medication-related fatal events, standards of pharmacy practice, standards of medication use in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and other issues. The cases he has worked on are equally divided between plaintiff and defense. When providing expert witness services Simonson serves as an educator. After thoroughly evaluating available data and case-related information he is able to summarize potentially complicated matters of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, etc. and report on the strengths and weaknesses of the cases he works on. Simonson is especially adept at translating complicated medication-related principles to lay audiences such as juries. He is a licensed pharmacist in OR, VA and RI. Simonson is a recipient of ASCP's George F. Archambault Award and was chosen as Scholar in Residence of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in Alexandria, VA. He was also chosen as "Outstanding Professional of the Year" by the Oregon Gerontological Association. He is a recipient of the Janssen ElderCare Lifetime Achievement Award.
