Michael H. Winer, M.D. is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon with over 40 years experience in spinal surgery. Dr. Winer spent two years in the Army including a year in Viet Nam (December 1969 - 1970) for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. While in private practice in St. Louis from 1975 to 1993 he was clinical instructor with Washington University, Barnes Hospital Orthopedic Dept. & attending surgeon to the spine clinic at Shriners Hospital. He taught residents and fellows and participated in the WU Orthopedic Department’s Annual Spine Conference. Dr. Winer moved to Arizona in 1993 and has maintained an active medical license in Arizona since then. His private practice was limited to treatment of spinal conditions, including degenerative LBP, sciatica, sacraliliac joint dysfunction, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis & "failed back syndrome". In Arizona, industrial cases often required testifying at industrial hearings. He helped develop & advance MIS surgery with the ATAVI system. He was lead author of a chapter on MIS lumbar fusion published in 2006 (Emerging Spine Surgery Technologies). He was also a consultant for several spinal implant companies teaching surgeons newer techniques and providing technical input about their products. Dr. Winer has worked as an expert witness for industrial, personal injury & medical malpractice cases for both the defense or plaintiff. Although his clinical practice is in Arizona, he has participated in medical legal cases throughout the United States.
