Manuel J. Chaknis, M.D., M.S. is an Honors graduate of the University of Chicago, majoring in Biological Sciences. He completed laboratory research in cornea and glaucoma and received research awards and funding for his work at the University’s Eye Research Lab. Dr. Chaknis’ graduate degree is in Microbiology, with his laboratory research and thesis concentrating on bacterial and fungal ocular infections in contact lens wearers. While a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia, he did further funded research in retinal physiology, followed by clinical research projects as a resident physician there in Ophthalmology on corneal delivery of topical antibiotics and laser treatments for glaucoma. Dr. Chaknis completed his clinical training at Corneal Consultants of Indiana, under the mentorship of Dr. Francis Price, Jr., an internationally-recognized expert in corneal diseases and surgery. He completed a year-long clinical and research fellowship in corneal diseases and surgery and laser refractive eye surgery (LASIK and PRK). Dr. Chaknis has over twenty years of clinical experience as a board-certified ophthalmologist. He has experience in a variety of solo and group private practice settings as well as solo and corporate LASIK practices, having performed several thousand cataract surgeries as well as over 30,000 LASIK surgeries. Dr. Chaknis is available to serve as an ophthalmology expert, with special expertise in LASIK/PRK eye surgeries, and to review ophthalmology clinical files.
