Jay received his MS and PhD in Packaging Science from Michigan State University. Considered amongst the top experts in the field of distribution packaging globally, Jay has published 98 peer-reviewed articles, 75 articles in conference proceedings, 40 trade journal articles, 3 book chapters, coauthored 2 books, and edited 1 book. Several of his publications have resulted in the development/modification of numerous globally acknowledged packaging test standards. With 2,597 total citations, Jay’s current citation indices are at 27 (h-index) and 57 (i10-index), my readership for Digital Commons currently stands at 224,336 downloads from 13,326 institutions in 197 countries. Several of his research efforts have led to innovative packaging designs that have been implemented in the field. His expertise includes teaching, training, testing services and contract research in package design, distribution environment measurement and simulation, material and package testing, product-package compatibility and LCA. Jay currently serves as the immediate past President of International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) and is a past Director on International Safe Transit Association’s (ISTA) Global Board. Having undertaken funded research of over 6.3 million from state, federal agencies and industry as well as currently holding two patents, Jay was recognized with the Distinguished Scholarship Award in 2017 by Cal Poly. Jay is also the recipient of the ISTA 2019 R. David LeButt Award. Jay has served as an expert witness on 15 cases since 2006 (60% defendant/40% plaintiff) in matters related to injury, death, contract lawsuits, and intellectual property. As an expert, he has reviewed and submitted multiple reports, undertaken forensic analysis, given depositions, and consulted with attorneys in a variety of cases.
