Broadly trained and trans-disciplinary social scientist with degrees in history, political science, and social anthropology, and over two decades’ experience in critical social science and humanities research, teaching and practice. Inaugural Postdoctoral Research Associate in African Humanities at Princeton University, and previously a Senior Research Specialist (SRS) and African Research Fellow (ARF) at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), South Africa. Recipient of the Harry Frank Guggenheim Distinguished Scholar Awards and the Mellon/American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) fellowships. Consulted for the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and NextGen Social Sciences programs of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), New York; U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs; the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC); and the National Research Foundation (NRF), South Africa, among others. A regular contributor to the PRIX Global Political Risk Index for Oil Markets. Communicated research findings on country and regional risk assessments to high-level government, non-governmental organizations and diplomatic forums and agencies. With over 35 peer-reviewed publications and invitation to address academic audiences in Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (Princeton University); The Graduate Centre (CUNY); Institute for Global Law and Policy (Harvard University); Centre for Research on Inequality, Human Security and Ethnicity (Oxford University); South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA), and the Tri-Continental CLACSO/IDEA/CODESRIA Sixth South-South Institute, as well as address policy and practitioner groups in The Africa Program and The Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity (Wilson Centre); Department of International Relations and Cooperation (South Africa); and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Senegal). A HIPAA Certified expert witness. Written several expert witness reports and opinions, testified in immigration evaluation and immigration detention hearings over the years, involving asylum, human rights and human security claims, persecution and discrimination based on political associations (including party politics, social and environmental activism), religion, ethnicity, identity and culture, group/individual self-determination cases involving people fleeing violence and conflict in Nigeria, as well as, those fleeing other West African countries with similar dynamics and for the same reasons.
