Dr. Daniel L Southren, M.D. is a Harvard-trained physician who is double-board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He maintains an active, full time medical practice, and is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Southren completed his Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School and his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Michigan. He completed his M.D. and M.B.A. at Columbia University in New York City. His clinical practice involves the care of acute and chronic pain patients with both malignant and non malignant pain diagnoses. He has a special interest in interventional procedures including neuromodulation and vertebral augmentation. Dr. Southren also continues to maintain his Anesthesiology practice and takes call at a Level 1 Trauma Center in West Philadelphia. Dr. Southren is also actively involved in research and medical education, and regularly lectures to residents and medical students on Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. He regularly reviews articles for several prestigious medical journals. His ability to distill complex medical issues into coherent and accessible language has been at the core of his success as an educator, clinician and consultant.
